I’m Jess, your wig wearing, champagne drinking, Bravo TV obsessed, side part and skinny jean wearing (they have never gone out of style in my opinion), telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia hair loss BFF.
We all want our wig to be impossibly natural looking. We want the hair to look like it’s growing straight out of our head, right? But when we take the wig out of the box and put it on for the first time, sometimes it doesn’t quite live up to our expectations. We examine the wig so closely that our noses are pressed up against the mirror and then we’re convinced that the knots and lace are so visible they can be seen from outer space. But don’t worry, I’m sharing the tips and tricks that I use to help my wigs look incredibly natural.
Change the part: This is a simple and easy way to make the wig feel more like you. Whether you’re team side part or team middle part, changing it up can make a big difference.
Style the hair up and away from your face: Not only does this help with making your wig look realistic, it also helps keep the hair out of your face. There’s nothing more annoying than having your wig hang in front of your face!
Use makeup powder in the part line: I use L’Oreal True Match powder in the color light ivory along my part line and ME Cosmetics Ultimate Scalp Foundation in the color Black/Brown along the sides of the lace. I find this helps blend the lace and hide any knots.
Customize the hairline: If you have lace along your hairline you can have your natural hair line traced onto the lace. Then a technician will hand tie individual hairs into the wig to mimic your natural hairline.
Have the wig thinned/trimmed: Having your wig thinned can make a huge difference, not only in how it looks but in how natural it feels on your head.
