I’m Jess, your wig wearing, champagne drinking, Bravo TV obsessed, side part and skinny jean wearing (they have never gone out of style in my opinion), telogen effluvium and androgenetic alopecia hair loss BFF.
Starting to wear a wig can feel like a major life moment. Whether you’re experiencing hair loss or simply exploring new ways to express yourself, that first time stepping out in a wig is full of nerves, excitement, and so many questions.
I’ve been there—and I want to help you take your first step with confidence, clarity, and a whole lot of support.
One of my most memorable first wig moments was dinner out for my husband’s birthday. It was just the two of us—my first “real” outing in a wig that wasn’t just a grocery run. I felt so cute, took a couple bathroom selfies (obviously), and felt like this was a safe, fun way to test the waters.
(Here’s that bathroom selfie)
Then… surprise! Some friends invited us over afterward.
My husband, the ultimate supporter, asked if I was okay with going. I said yes—even though inside I was panicking. But it turned out to be exactly what I needed. I didn’t have time to overthink or rehearse what I’d say. I just had to go with it. And guess what? The only comment I got was, “Your hair looks great!”
No questions. No awkward stares. Just a normal, wonderful night.
That moment helped me realize: people aren’t scrutinizing our hair the way we think. If anything, they’re admiring how amazing we look.
Let’s get one thing straight: you don’t owe anyone an explanation.
Whether you’re wearing wigs because of hair loss, for fashion, or just because you feel better in one—that’s your business.
That said, if you want to open up, you totally can. And you get to choose the tone:
Some people will be supportive, some might ask questions, and others might not know what to say. That’s all okay. Your comfort is the priority.
(Here I am in the very early days of wig searing and clearly still working on my blending game)
Compliments can feel tricky at first. When someone says “Your hair looks amazing!” your brain might freeze for a second. Do I say it’s a wig? Do I just say thank you?
Here’s the deal—you get to choose your response:
I usually let the vibe of the moment guide me. But here’s what I’ve found: most people are just giving you a compliment. No hidden meanings. Just roll with it.
Wearing a wig can feel like a hidden secret at first. But once you begin to own it, a beautiful thing happens: freedom.
When you stop worrying about what others think and start doing what makes you feel beautiful, everything shifts. You stand taller. You smile bigger. You live louder.
Wigs are just hair. But for so many of us, they represent confidence, healing, joy, and strength.

You get to choose what you share. How you share it. And when.
There’s no timeline. No pressure. Just your story—written by you.
So whether you’re telling the world or keeping it just between you and your mirror, know this: you are strong, stunning, and so worthy of feeling like your best self.
And if today is the day you wear your wig out for the first time? I’m cheering for you every step of the way.
Your confidence is contagious, your presence is powerful, and your story—however you choose to tell it—is yours to own.
You’ve got this.
Cheering you on always,
Jess xx
