So you’ve been perusing Instagram and the internet. You’ve checked out a few wigs, shops, and brands. Maybe you’ve reached out to a hair loss sister to ask about her wig buying advice and customer service experience with a particular shop or brand. You’ve narrowed it down, and now you’re ready to take the leap to purchase a wig! But which one? Which size? What if you want a different color? Or cut? What the heck does all of the information in the wig description actually mean? All valid questions that absolutely need to be answered before investing in a wig. This is why I highly recommend doing a consultation.
If you’re a first-time wig buyer, it’s a necessity, but even if you’re an OG wig wearer, it’s still a good idea to take the time for a consultation when you’re buying from a new brand or shop. Now, have I always followed my own advice? Nope. I know it’s super tempting to just “add to cart” and I’m guilty of the 2 am impulse purchase because for whatever reason that wig needed to be purchased immediately. Sometimes that totally works out, the wig fits and it’s fantastic. Other times it completely backfires, you’re stuck paying a restocking fee and you have no wig to show for it. But in a perfect world, you’ll take the time to schedule that consult.
Whether it’s in person or virtual it gives you an opportunity to connect with someone who is (or should be) an expert in their particular wigs. It’s your chance to see multiple wigs (maybe even some that aren’t listed online), figure out the best cap size for you, see the wig in different types of lighting, ask questions (not sure what to ask? Check out this post here), and find out what the process is for purchasing and customizing. It also gives you the opportunity to see if you are comfortable with that shop/brand.
Buying a wig is not only a financial investment, it’s an emotional one too. So you want to make sure you get all the good vibes flowing during your appointment. If you’re torn between multiple brands, make a consult appointment with each to help you decide. I’m yet to come across a reputable brand or shop that does not offer some type of consultation. Sometimes they’re free, sometimes they’re a small fee, but they’re 100% worth it. Take that extra step and purchase your wig with confidence!
